Squanto had a really big impact on the Pilgrims. He was from the Patuxet tribe and after a great sickness was the only member to survive. Squantos English was very advanced because he had traveled to England and other places across the Atlantic. Upon his return to the new world Squanto encountered the Pilgrims and stayed with them for around 18 months. His help was crucial for survival. Squanto was said to help the pilgrims build warmer houses to help them through the winter. He taught them how to plant corn, where to plant it, how to fertilize it, and when to harvest it. Because of this advice the Pilgrims farmed around 20 acres of corn. After the corn was harvested Squanto taught the women how to prepare it. Squanto also advised the pilgrims on realtions with other Native Americans. He was able to act as an interpretor and he was able to help them with trading expeditions. Without all of these things taught to the pilgrims by Squanto it would be very difficult for their colony to survive.

I also did a post on Squanto, and he was really helpful to the Indians but to other people also! I didn't realize how big of a part he played on everything, especially the pilgrims, until I did more research. I really enjoyed reading your information.
ReplyDeleteGood info and thanks for the source.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that everyone did Squnato for their blog last week. But I find it very enteresting because everyone has a different outlook of things about Squanto. But you did a very good job of explaining and summerizing about squanto!
