Captain John Smith meeting the Native Americans

This is a picture I found while searching for John Smiths relations with the Native Americans. I found this picture interesting because underneath the picture the website said a few things suggesting that this was Smiths first encounter with them. After reading in class about this, I questioned the website because I was under the impression that Smith and the Indians did not fight upon his arrival and that the Indians later supplied Smith and his crew with food for survival.

  1. You're quite correct about questioning the site. From what we've read and heard, they did not meet when the colonists first came to shore. They also did not have much face to face contact, from what we have heard, besides Smith and Pocahontas's father. I would agree with you in questioning the site, it seems to be very unreliable.

  2. Wow, i really like this picture, it explains so much about how the indians really didn't care for the colonists. It's a very good action shot of how the colonists were first pulling into Jamestown. But it seems to me that when the colonists came to the new world the indians didn't know at first that they were there, until some indians encountered them.
